It was a lovely sunny mild day in January (What is going on? Last summer we had April showers, then in autumn we had an Indian summer, winter is still trudging alone as if it were autumn... I reckon we'll be getting snow in March at this rate!)
Um anyway, where was I?
Oh yes, so it was a lovely mild day in January... we were going to head out to explore a national trust place we hadn't been before, and then I remembered we forgot to get out membership - oops! Lucky for me the boys just wanted to play in the garden anyway!
The garden is pretty muddy and waterlogged at the moment, from all the rain we've had recently so the boys happily put on some boots and waterproofs.
As they were playing, they discovered what I had noticed... there was still an awful lot of green in the garden! So an idea popped into my head. A very unoriginal idea, but I knew the boys would love it! We decided to make ice suncatchers out of things we found in the garden. I would link to my inspiration but seriously, there's loads - go on pinterest or google 'nature ice suncatcher' or something like that! There are some really stunning ones out there.
So the boys grabbed their bags and started filling them with random twigs, berries, leaves, flowers...
They loved squelching around in the mud, looking for anything they thought would look nice inside a chunk of ice. It was lovely watching them following each other around, pointing things out and helping fill up each others bags!
We made the ice suncatchers, but unfortunately it was dark by the time they had completely frozen, so we played with them another day. All the details are on my nature ice suncatchers post.
Once we had made them the boys ran back outside to play again, and that's where they spent most of the day!
They both love the ride ons, except the trike... they both liked it as babies but now neither of them likes it, except to fill the back bit with water. They got a bucket and kept getting water from the hose, and made up a little story between themselves about their fish (a pile of dead leaves at the bottom)
Very cute to watch them play together - they always seem to get along better than ever when they're outdoors, I wish every day could be an outdoors day!
